With
the merger of the Composite Training Institute, then functioning as an apex
Training Institute of Agriculture Department, the foundation stone of the
State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) was laid on the November 14,
1987and inaugurated on the same day in 1991. It attained autonomy in 1993
under the Department of Rural
Development,
The institute is being run by the Director as per
the constitution adopted by the Board of Governors with the fund available
from the Central and State Government.

February 1992, registered under Item No. 525 Vol. I of Societal Act. The

With its official
registration under item 525 Vol. No. I, Societal Act, the Institute was
granted full autonomic status w.e.f. 9.7.1992. The Institute is headed by
the Director as the Member Secretary and the Secretary, Rural Development
Department as the Chairperson
Objectives
To
undertake research for socio-economic development of the rural people.
To
impart training for skilled human resource development in the rural sector
with the application of both indigenous and modern technologies
Mission
and Thrust Areas
Research
and documentation of indigenous knowledge and technologies of the state
Training
in appropriate rural technologies for production and processing of
agricultural, horticultural, livestock and agro-forestry produce and
utilization of natural resource for the sustainable development of the rural
sector.

and Capacity Building of Representatives of Panchayati Raj Institution for
effective implementation of Democratic Decentralization and Devolution of
power at the grassroots
Empowerment
of Women
Employment Generation among local youth
